Key Aims

  • To know the basics of the personal statement including word count, font, characters, lines, and the software that identifies plagiarism.
  • To understand the timeline of UCAS applications including open days, drafts, re-writes, deadlines, and interviews.
  • To break the personal statement process down into ten small steps.
  • To receive crystal clear pointers that help to generate the material for each of the ten steps.
  • To write freely and not overthink the process (vomit draft).
  • To identify key aspects of target course descriptions.
  • To demonstrate that the course requirements are understood by relating current courses, skills, and interests to those requirements.
  • To learn how to make the most of hobbies and interests.
  • To demonstrate that you have the skills and experience to cope with the course and university life in general.
  • To inject passion into the personal statement by following simple tips.
  • To learn when, where, and why to include personal circumstances that have affected educational performance.
  • To learn how to structure each section: opening paragraph, middle section, and closing paragraph.
  • To write a punchy opening paragraph within the session.
  • To leave the session with all of the material needed to generate a high-quality first draft.
