A practical STEM workshop packed with fun, engaging activities.

Key Aims

  • To develop engineering skills through practical, team-based activities.
  • To design structures/devices in response to a brief.
  • To calibrate designs in order to remove human error.
  • To devise and record as many abstract solutions to a problem solving brief as possible.
  • To practise leadership and management skills in a team-based competitive activity to build a giant structure.
  • To be introduced to multitude of different types of engineering (audio, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental etc)
  • To be able to define the engineering process.
  • To take on the roles of designer, quantity surveyor, and structural engineer during the programme.
  • To learn about career opportunities in engineering.
  • To be introduced to a diverse set of famous engineers and organisations that challenge stereotypes in STEM careers.
  • To practise the following employability skills within an engineering context: Analytical skills, teamwork, technical skills, leadership, communication, resilience, and creativity.
  • To design structures that utilise repeating shapes to bear a load.
  • To discover why the humble triangle plays such an important role in the world of engineering.
  • To solve seemingly impossible engineering problems.
  • To have fun and learn by doing
  • To engage with STEM concepts throughout this highly interactive and inspirational workshop.
